Following the return and establishment of wolves in an undoubtedly sustainable way, and given the presence of lynx in the French Jurassien Massif, the Vigie Jura association was created in May 2022 in order to promote the cohabitation between wild fauna and human activities, in particular breeding. We created it with Thierry and Angélique. It is a copy of the Oppal model that operates in neighboring Switzerland. The Vigie Jura association offers support to ranchers/shepherds in areas where large predators are present (assistance in monitoring herds, scaring away in the event of the presence of wolves for example) in order to limit their stress level, to defuse conflict situations that may occur and to prevent them from degenerating into the disadvantage of wolves and lynxes, which are part of the Jura landscape today. At the same time, it is trying to better understand the behaviors of large predators, in general but also in particular on a given site, in order to best adapt herd protection systems. To do this, it makes observations in the field, records presence indicators, uses camera traps and collaborates with all the actors working around these protected species (associations, State services, LIFE Wolfalps EU program, life Wolfalps EU program, breeders, shepherds...).
